Vision Insurance Plans: are health and wellness plans designed to reduce your costs for routine preventive eye care (exams) and prescription eyewear (glasses and/or contact lenses).  The plan may cover the cost of these items in full, up to a preset limit, or it may require the policyholder to pay a flat fee or percentage fee to share the expense with the insurer.  Premiums tend to be inexpensive compared to other types of insurance because many of the covered costs are predictable and expensive claims are rare.

Vision Care Insurance: refers to a financial protection plan purchased by the policyholder for a monthly fee. In return, the policyholder receives reduced fees on certain eye health and vision correction products and services. It is worth noting that most regular health insurance policies usually cover only eye diseases or eye injuries. In contrast, vision care insurance provides may cover for the cost of routine eye exams, corrective lenses, contact lenses, or eyeglass frames.

Vision care insurance plans usually provide some basic services such as:

  • A yearly examination for checking the policyholder’s vision
  • Eyeglass frames and lenses
  • Contact lenses
  • Laser-Assisted In situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) and Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) vision correction procedures

Vision care insurance plans might require the policyholder to:

  • Cover the cost of the eye care services in full
  • Cover the cost of the services prescribed up to a predetermined limit or,
  • Require that the policyholder pay a flat fee or a percentage fee for sharing the expenses with the insurer

Vision care insurance plans are quite inexpensive because the covered costs are often predictable. This is why they bear a closer semblance to discount plans as opposed to insurance plans.Give us a call today. We are happy to help you select the plan design that is right for your group.
